Frequently Asked Questions

Some additional information to help with your decision for LAPSE OF REASON as the band for your occasion:

Will the 'band'play for longer at request on the night, and if so, what is the cost?

Yes, no problems, usually $250 per hour. We have found that we end up usually playing about 3hrs of music at most of the weddings we play. By the time the speeches and dinners and cutting the cake etc have been done it is about 8 - 9pm and most venues like to have the event wound up by midnight. But we certainly make sure it is an energetic 3hrs!

Do you have anything special for the First Dance at a wedding?

Yes absolutely and it works great! We play the first-dance song the couple wish for via iPod through our sound system. As soon as the song finishes, the band kicks into gear with a really dancy fun number - it works really well as there are already guests crowding around and on the dancefloor so everybody gets right into it - and bang the party has started!

How will you be dressed?
Being musicians our favourate clothes are jeans and a T-shirt... but of course for weddings we dress in dress-pants and a collared shirt, unless we are told otherwise.

Can we select the songs we want played (from your playlist), and general timing?

Yes, we are more than happy for you to be involved. However, as a rule, we are pretty good at reading the overall feeling of the crowd, and picking and choosing the right songs for the moment. We also keep it very varied for all ages and switch from Sublime to the Beatles to Chilli Peppers to Greenday and then the Eagles… it is one of the most common compliments we get how we play all differing types of music. General timing is no problems, and you are welcome to be involved with our playlist, but generally we know what we a doing.

Is the additional background music (pre-recorded) inclusive, and the additional charge only for where band members playing?

Yes, all part of the deal, it is just an iPod with a selection of playlists plugged into our sound system.

How do you manage breaks?

We play it by ear – every gig is different. Sometimes we play for 1hr then take a 15min break and come back for a 2hr long set to finish. Other times, we do 2 X 1.5hr sets with a 10min break – every crowd is different so we tend to play to what is going on. If everyone is raging and dancing madly we will keep playing. If people look like they are getting tired and need a moment then we will take a break. We keep it flexible.

You mention you are able to provide additional services such as live SOLO ACOUSTIC GUITAR at wedding ceremony's or similar, and also a 2-PIECE ACOUSTIC DUO - how much does this cost?

The price is $60 per hour for solo guitar or $120 per hour for two-piece

Is it an issue if the additional services such as solo-guitar or acoustic 2 piece is in a different area of the reception grounds?

Generally not but the only consideration is transporting our equipment and whether this is necessary, and also how far away it is. Every event is different and we can work things out once we have the details. But remember we are here to help and make sure our clients have the best possible day they can!
